USHUAIA; THE END OF ONE WORLD & THE BEGINNING OF ANOTHER

The Argentine part of the southernmost tip of South America is called Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego. Its geography is divided by the Andes Mountain Range, which defines, almost equally, two regions; it features in the north area, plain scenery and Rio Grande as the most important town. To the south, majestic mountains reign with valleys that run off into the ocean. Here you will find Ushuaia.

Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world, on the shores of the Beagle Channel and surrounded by the Martial Mounts. It is the capital of Tierra del Fuego and Southern Atlantic Islands Province, and its superlative location allows one to enjoy sea, mountains and forests and a very quaint and captivating little frontier town, all together.

Ushuaia is an extremely busy Embarkation Port both for containers and passengers. It has become increasingly busy over recent years with a marked increase in Ecotourism and Antarctic tourism. It is the second largest port of the country (after Buenos Aires) in container traffic and, simultaneously, it provides the springboard for many scientific and tourist ships down South. Since recent extensions, it has justifiably acquired not only the title of Fin del Mundo (the End of the Earth), but equally, the title of Gateway to a fascinating and brave, new world, Antarctica.

The town is a great place for reasonably priced outdoor adventure shopping: The whole island is a tax free zone, thus you can find lots of imported goods along with regional products at quite competitive prices.

Established on October 12 1884, it’s a rugged frontier town (some would say a bit dilapidated), but with definite charm.

All year long you can enjoy this wonderful city with a host of adventure tourism options: Climbing the Glacier, trekking, horse riding, mountain bike riding, fishing and the most pleasant charters along the Beagle Channel.

Tierra del Fuego National Park is another great attraction in order to discover Escondido and Fagnano Lakes, and Martial Glacier. Not very far from this site you can find the small village of Tolhuin, as picturesque as Chepelmut and Yehuin Lakes.

In winter the snowy scenery changes Ushuaia's appearance completely.

During fall and spring the scenery is also amazing.

Tourist bumpff is catching on fast, that Ushuaia may the end of the world as we know it for some, but it’s definitely the beginning of something else truly extraordinary, the life-changing adventure of Antarctica.
