| 2041 is an
ex-Challenge 67' yacht. From 1990 to
1998, Challenge Business oversaw the design, build, fit out
and maintenance of their fleet of sixteen 67ft Challenge
Race Yachts. During that time the fleet sailed well over 1.5
million miles including 24 fully crewed circumnavigations
against the winds and currents (the 'wrong way') in the
British Steel Challenge 1992-93 and the BT Global Challenge
1996-97. The yachts were built by
Devonport Yachts in Plymouth. They are very strict
one-designs. Because of the one-design nature of the yachts
and therefore not as much of a limiting factor on weight,
the boats are fitted out to a standard that required no
refitting for corporate or adventure sailing use.
The 40 tonne
Global Challenge Race yachts, made of British Steel, were
originally designed for the rigours of the Southern Ocean.
Having raced tens of thousands of miles in the toughest and
most demanding oceans they have certainly demonstrated their
outstanding seaworthiness. The comfortable and heated
accommodation berths fourteen, (two three-berth and two
two-berth cabins forward and two two-berth cabins aft). The
cabins are more inviting than on most ocean racing yachts
and each bunk has a full length pipecot with a deep leecloth.
There are two heads (toilets) on board each fitted with a
hot shower. A table around which the entire crew can sit
dominates the spacious saloon.
